How to make police report correct after road accident

Step 1: Information Gathering

What should you do if you have been caught in a car accident (minor with no injury) and you are the victim?
  1. Stop the car engine.
  2. Get down from the car and observe the damages of your car.
  3. Make sure the 3rd party is getting down from the car as well.
  4. Take photo of your car damage, the 3rd party car with number plate. Of course can take more than 1 photo. Try to take the front and the back of the 3rd party car and if possible take the photo of the person (3rd party) who drive the car.
  5. Get the contact number, name of the 3rd party driver, if possible, get the IC number as well.

Step 2: Log the Report
  1. Drive to the nearest police station to make report.
  2. The policeman might direct you to the correct traffic police station to make report, as this is depend on the location that the accident happened. But most of the police station will accept the request of making report for car accident as they are now running by system.  By giving the information to the policeman and he/she will write the report for you using system and the report (draft) will be printed out.
  3. The policeman will advise you to go to the correct traffic police station and to meet with the particular office / sergeant within 24 hours (any latenes will be fined, ie. saman)
Tips : I might advise you to make the police report at the nearest police station first as not too crowded compare to traffic police station.
Step 3: See the Sergeant and Photo Shooting
  1. Bring the police report and meet with the police officer/sergeant that named while you making the police report. He/She will interview you about the incident happen.
  2. Then, the sergeant will give you a copy of ………. , and direct you to get your car for photo shooting in the traffic police station.
  3. Then buy the police report at the counter indicated. It may cost you RM2 per copy of the police report. Please take note on the operation hours of the report counter. The one I visited, PJ Traffic Police Station is operating from 8am-1pm, 2pm -3.30pm from Monday to Friday.
  4. Most of the traffic police stations are running by system. The sergeant will take 1-2 week’s time for the accident investigation.
Tips : In case you miss the operating hour of the counter to buy the police report, you still can buy it during the time you collect the investigation result “Keputusan”.

Step 4: Take the result (Keputusan)
  1.  After one week, you may call the officer (the number will indicate in ………) for checking on the status of the investigation result (keputusan).
  2. Once the police officer informed you that the “keputusan” is ready, check with him when you can go back to the traffic police station to take the “keputusan” and he might advise you to go directly to the report counter to buy the “keputusan”
  3. You will need to go back to the report counter within the operating hours to buy the “keputusan” at RM4.00 and photo of your car damage that taken in the police station during the day you make report at RM6.00.
  4. In case the report counter officer told you that your result of investigation (keputusan) is not completed in the system, you have to check with the sergeant who interviewed you.
Tips : I might advise you to ensure the officer is in office during the time you go to collect the result (keputusan). Otherwise, you might need to arrange another day to collect the “keputusan”
